Why is Capzy made of soft silicone?

Posted by Litzy Thomsen on

When I had to figure out what material Capzy should be made of, silicone quickly came into the picture. There are several reasons for this. Firstly, silicone is known as a very soft material, and yet it is very firm and hard enough to be shaped and hold its shape.

When an aid is going to have direct contact with the skin, in my world it should be nice - read: soft and comfortable - and be free of a lot of dangerous chemicals and dyes.

Silicone is a product made from silicon. Unlike synthetic rubber, silicone does not contain any solvents or softeners. Silicone remains "soft". In addition, the heat-resistant silicone is extremely durable and maintains its shape and consistency, even when heated within the temperature ranges: minus 60 degrees to plus 230 degrees. Capzy can therefore be cleaned in an autoclave (can also be sterilised by radiation and heat), in the dishwasher and in a washing bag in the washing machine, which makes Capzy user-friendly and easy to use, and at the same time it has a long shelf life. The silicone will not melt at higher temperatures, but its lifespan will be shortened.

The silicone that Capzy is made of is also acid-free. It is also approved for use in the food and pharmaceutical industries. It is resistant to ultraviolet light, ozone and static electricity, but is not resistant to very strong acids and bases.

Silicone comes in different hardnesses, and the one I use is called solid Shore A 60, which has an impact on the shape.

Most people are familiar with the problem of, for example, a garden hose made of rubber plastic that will soften over time. A hose made of silicone will not do this, even if it is left out in the sun for a whole summer. Within kitchen utensils, we also see many different products made of silicone, which also require good elasticity, but still keep their shape, such as a dough scraper or gaskets for airtight lids.

Another interesting property of silicone is that it is very difficult to get anything to stick to it - such as printing a logo or the like. On the other hand, this can illustrate that silicone is easy to keep nice and clean, as virtually nothing sticks to it and it retains its nice look.

As a manufacturer, I can proudly say that the Capzy screen meets the requirements that a really good quality screen should have. It is soft, elastic, easy to clean, fits perfectly against the skin, is long-lasting and free of toxic chemicals and dyes.
